The Impact of TRAKS in Kiara
In the mid-2000s, the local authorities brought in a bulldozer and began to destroy a number of the hand-crafted single-track trails.
In response to this, the Trails Association of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (TRAKS) was formed.
Together with other local community stakeholders, TRAKS succeeded in preventing further destruction of the trails and even establish a working relationship with the government bodies overseeing Bukit Kiara.
The objective of TRAKS is to contribute towards the preservation of green lungs, and to be an advocate for proper trail building and maintenance thereof. Without the forests there would be no trails, and without proper maintenance of what is there, soil erosion would eventually destroy the trails.
Thanks to the generous donations of individuals, this NGO has also become the main source of funding for building and repairing the numerous wooden bridges throughout Kiara.
They constantly seek volunteers to assist them in their regular trail maintenance activities. Join their mission here.
